On Tuesday, February 7, 2012 the Burlington Firefighters Association, International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 3044 held a Mayoral forum. The purpose of this event was to allow firefighters that work in Burlington's firehouses to meet with and talk to the candidates for mayor. About half of the City's firefighters were in attendance.
Miro Wienberger, Kurt Wright and Wanda Hines all met separately with the Union. The candidates fielded questions from the membership ranging from the City Pension System, station consolidation, cuts to fire department staffing levels, and development in Burlington. Local 3044 President Derek Libby thanked all of the candidates for their time and participation in this important process.
After great discussion, the Unions membership voted not to endorse a candidate in this years mayors race. The BFFA membership didn't believe that there was one single candidate that was strong on our issues. The Burlington Firefighters Association makes endorsements based on fire service and labor issues that directly affect its membership and their ability to service the citizens of Burlington.
