One man’s home was destroyed in an overnight fire in Burlington, according Burlington Fire Department Deputy Chief Bruce Bourgeois.
The occupant, whom the department did not name because the fire is under investigation, was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The fire destroyed the home at 4 Avenue B in the Farrington’s Mobile Home Park in Burlington’s New North End and damaged the siding of a neighboring home, Bourgeois said. The fire department was called at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday; most of the responding firefighters wrapped up their work within an hour.
The fire was extensive enough to warrant the evacuation of neighboring homes, according to Burlington Police Department Deputy Chief Andi Higbee.
Volunteers with the Red Cross provided the man with financial assistance for food and clothing, according to the organization.
The Burlington fire was one of two that night. A fire in the Northeast Kingdom town of Lunenburg displaced seven people.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Department was not available for comment on the Lunenburg fire Saturday.
